Inshore Fishing

The inshore fishing is spectacular in the 10,000 islands area.

Fish the Mangroves

Anglers have the option to fish thousands of mangroves islands which will hold a variety of different fish throughout the year.  This is probably the easiest way to fish here.  Find a mangrove-lined shoreline on an island and start casting.  However, every area with mangroves will not produce excellent fishing, so you have to be aware of the other factors that help create better fishing spots.  Is there current in your spot?  Is there deep water near the mangrove trees?  Are there some nice drop-offs that hold fish nearby the mangroves during a low tide?  Where is the bait?  Once you connect the dots and figure out the other variables on any given day out here, you can experience some incredible fishing for snook, redfish, sea trout, tarpon sheepshead, ladyfish, pompano, snapper, jack crevalle and even grouper.

Fish the Smaller Creeks

There are also tidal rivers that flow in and out of the backcountry that offer some excellent fishing.  Getting into these areas is a little tricky and not recommended for first time visitors.  There are some very good fishing guides who fish these areas in smaller skiff boats, which are perfect for maneuvering around some of these smaller creeks that are surrounded by canopies of the mangrove trees.
