Whiting are small, tasty surf fish commonly caught along beaches in Clearwater and St. Pete. Also called kingfish (not to be confused with king mackerel), they’re easy to catch from shore with light tackle and are great for kids and new anglers.

Whiting are found:

Right in the surf zone on sandy beaches

In troughs and cuts just past the breakers

On sand flats and near passes

Use small hooks and shrimp-tipped rigs fished right on the bottom for steady action.
