In the spring, warm weather helps bring fish into the bay, however, the better fishing usually occurs near the end of spring and usually closer to the ocean. Many species will become available in the lower bay with good fishing near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. The striped bass fishing is good in the month of May and they will be found further into the bay that many of the other species of fish.

In June, fishing heats up for a variety of fish. The best striped bass fishing is now further south towards the ocean. Some of the other fish you will find in the bay during the summer are bluefish, flounder, spot, redfish, sea trout, sea bass and more.

While you can catch a lot of different species early in the fall in the lower bay, the big draw to the bay is going to come from mid-fall to the end of fall as anglers target thousands of striped bass. You can find large numbers of stripers to go along with some very big fish too. In November, some of the biggest striped bass of the year will be caught, but the fishing can definitely be hit or miss as it gets colder.

With the striped bass fishing season closed for the winter, most anglers will put their boats away for the winter. For some anglers, they will get out and enjoy the bay for other fish such as flounder, sea trout and a variety of freshwater fish too.
