The split shot rig is a great rig for when you don’t need a lot of weight to get your bait to the desired spot that you are fishing.  By using less weight, you have a better chance of the carp hanging onto your bait long enough so you can get a hook set in.  Carp are known for blowing the bait out when they feel like something isn’t right.  This rig will help you catch more carp.
