The Beaufort, SC area is definitely not a striped bass hot spot, however, there is a fishable population of riverine stripers in this area. Basically, these fish are not like the ones you would find farther up the coast. The fish in the Beaufort area are riverine stripers which means they stay in the rivers. However, they do move around the rivers and usually when it gets cold during the winter months, a good amount of them will move towards the brackish waters closer to the ocean. The Ashepoo, Combahee and Edisto Rivers are the place to go if you want to fish for striped bass. Each river flows into salt waters, which forms a brackish water that is home to several species of fish.
