The Fryingpan River originates east of Aspen in the Hunter Fryingpan Wilderness and flows northwest to Ruedi Reservoir. Below the reservoir, the river travels another 14 miles towards Basalt, Colorado and it converges with the Roaring Fork River. This tailwater fishery below the dam is a popular Gold Medal trout fishing destination. It is home to very good fishing for a variety of trout such as brown trout, rainbow trout, brook trout and cutthroat trout.
