Triggerfish, especially the gray triggerfish, are a prized bottom species in the offshore waters off Apalachicola. Known for their excellent table quality and tough bite, they’re typically caught near reefs and wrecks. While they aren’t large, their fight on light tackle and availability during certain seasons makes them a favorite among reef anglers.


Where to Catch Triggerfish


Triggerfish are commonly found around:

Offshore natural and artificial reefs

Rock ledges and hard bottom areas

Mixed in with snapper and grouper

Deeper Gulf waters, usually 80–200 feet
