Tarpon are known for swimming along the beaches just a little bit off the beaches in the nearshore waters. However, some of these tarpon will follow bait fish right into the surf and if you are on the beach while this is happening, you’re in for quite a sight. Tarpon will crush schools of bait fish on the beaches and if you can get a bait in there when they are on the feed, you can hook up with some nice fish. Catching a tarpon from the surf can be flat out awesome. To up your odds of finding a tarpon on the beach, your best best is to fish the Atlantic coast as tarpon follow the mullet run down through Florida or to hit the beaches in the early summer and again in the fall as they follow their migration path.
