Lake Trout


Sturgeon Lake several areas with some very deep water and many lake trout call these areas home for most of the open water fishing season.  If you fish here the first couple weeks after the walleye opener and late in the fall, you can find a lot of lake trout up closer to the shorelines where they are a lot easier to catch.

This area has a lot of lakes and many of them have lake trout in them.  If you are looking to go exploring, there is plenty of water here to explore for lake trout.


Savant Lake


Savant Lake is a huge lake with some awesome fishing available.  It does not have public access so you need to fly in or one of the resorts has a drive-in service with a special off-road vehicle and trailer to get your group and your gear to the camp.

If you get to spend some time on this lake, you should enjoy it.  There are huge numbers of fish in it, so once you figure out the better spots, you can catch a lot of fish.  Anglers report 100 fish days per boat here quite frequently.  On bad weather days, this lake can really get rough, however, there are plenty of places to get out of the rough water and still fish.  With more than 400 miles of shoreline, depths down to 200 feet, tons of islands, so many bays and feeder streams flowing in and out, you have an outstanding fishery for northern pike, walleye and lake trout.
