Welcome to our Southern Minnesota Fishing Home Page

Southern Minnesota has plenty of places to fish whether you want to river fish or target the many lakes in the area.  The Mississippi River is very popular in this part of the state because of its tremendous walleye fishery.  The numerous lakes in the area also are great for largemouth bass, northern pike and panfish with some walleye mixed in too.

Primary Species of Fish

Walleye, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike

The area lakes are dominated by largemouth bass and northern pike.  Many of these lakes are relatively shallow and will have good weed growth, which makes them great for bass and pike.  Walleye are the primary species of fish in the Mississippi River, but they are secondary in the area lakes.

Secondary Species of Fish

Smallmouth Bass, White Bass, Crappie, Bluegill, Perch

Smallmouth bass are found in the rivers, but they are not common in most of the area lakes in Southern Minnesota.  White bass are actually here in large numbers if you want to target them in the Mississippi River, however, they are a secondary species for most anglers.  Crappie and bluegill are the dominant panfish in most of the area lakes.  Perch are available too, but definitely a secondary species of fish.
