Welcome to our Red River of the North Fishing Home Page

Red River of the North is a very long river with some outstanding fishing opportunities in many different sections of the river.  It covers 550 miles while it flows from Breckenridge, Minnesota to Lake Winnipeg in Canada.  This river also forms most of the border between Minnesota and North Dakota and then crosses into Canada.

Red River of the North is known as one of the best destinations for catching trophy-sized channel catfish.  The river is home to over 70 species of fish, but the fish that most anglers will be targeting are catfish, walleye, northern pike and smallmouth bass.

Primary Species of Fish

Walleye & Catfish

The Red River of the North is home to some of the most incredible fishing for huge channel catfish.  Anglers routinely catch catfish in the double digits and it is common to hear of catfish caught over 20 pounds.  The walleye fishery does not measure up to the amazing catfish fishery, but there are also a lot of walleye in this river system and some very big walleye do roam these waters.

Secondary Species of Fish

Smallmouth Bass & Northern Pike

There are so many different species of fish in the river.  Northern pike are found throughout the river and you can some absolute giants in the river.  Smallmouth bass are secondary for sure, but there are some spots that offer some pretty good bass fishing as well.
