Port Arthur is known as a great destination for getting outdoors. This city has tons of water as Lake Sabine and the Gulf of Mexico coast connect to the city. There area also has some great beaches, some nice places to eat, numerous lodging options and some great fishing opportunities in freshwater and saltwater.
This area is an awesome inshore fishing destination. Check out Sabine Lake for good numbers of redfish and sea trout to go along with a variety of other fish too. You can target fish from the beaches as well here. Offshore, you can be into some very good offshore fishing depending on the season. Anglers will fish the offshore structures that will hold many different species of fish. You have a lot of options here, however, the inshore fishing is what attracts most people to Port Arthur.
Inshore Fishing
This area is an awesome inshore fishing destination. Check out Sabine Lake for good numbers of redfish and sea trout to go along with a variety of other fish too. You will find several guides who focus on just the inshore waters here. Fish in a bay boat, small boat or try a kayak. Either way, the calm inshore waters here will give you a lot of options.
Nearshore Fishing
Nearshore, anglers can target a variety of fish along the beaches. The inshore is what usually draws people to the Port Arthur area, however, when there are some tarpon and cobia in the area, you can usually find some anglers that will run the beaches in search of them. Some other fish that you can target nearshore are grouper, snapper, kingfish, Spanish mackerel and more.
Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing
Port Arthur is known for its inshore fishing, however, you can be into some very good offshore fishing depending on the season. Anglers will fish the offshore structures that will hold many different species of fish. There are several charters here also who focus on the offshore waters of the Gulf. Some of the popular fish that are caught offshore are grouper, snapper, cobia, amberjack, king mackerel, barracuda, sharks, tuna, sailfish, marlin & others.
Surf & Pier Fishing
Surf and Pier fishing is available here. You have a lot of surf to fish along the beaches and piers are available here too. Most anglers are looking for redfish and trout, but depending on the season, you may be able to catch whiting, pompano, spanish mackerel, black drum, flounder, sheepshead, sharks and more.
