Panfish

Pickwick Lake offers some very good fishing for crappie, bluegill and other bream. The crappie bite can be very good in the spring when these fish move into the shallows.  Try fishing the many creeks during the spring crappie spawn and you can put a lot of fish in the livewell.  During the rest of the year, expect to find crappie much deeper which makes them a lot harder to catch.  The bluegill fishing can be very good, especially in the spring when they move into the shallows.  Fish the feeder creeks in the spring and keep moving until you find active fish.  If you can cover some water, there is a good chance that you will run into one of these bigger schools of bluegill where there can be dozens of keeper-sized fish waiting to eat your bait.  When they are on the beds, the fishing can be outstanding if you can find their beds.  During the rest of the year, fish the deeper weed edges or try to find schooling fish in open water.
