The Outer Banks is a chain of barrier islands located on the Atlantic coast in North Carolina.  This region is a very popular beach vacation destination.  Throughout the Outer Banks, you will find many places to stay, numerous restaurants and recreation activities for the entire family.  Boating, fishing, golf and hanging out at the beach are just some of the things you can do while you are here.

You have so many options to fish here.  Try fishing off one of the piers, in the surf or hire a fishing charter.  There are plenty of fishing charters throughout the Outer Banks that fish inshore or offshore for a variety of saltwater fish.

Outer Banks, NC Inshore Fishing


Inshore, anglers have a lot of water to fish. When striped bass are around, the fishing can be very good in the sound for stripers. Redfish and speckled trout are the fish that most anglers pursue while fishing inshore. Drum, croaker, spot, sheepshead and flounder are some of the other fish that you may catch inshore.

Outer Banks, NC Nearshore Fishing


Nearshore, anglers can fish the reefs and wrecks for a variety of fish too. Many anglers either fish inshore or farther offshore, however, you can find some good fishing nearshore as well depending on the time of year. You may find striped bass, Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, cobia, barracuda, bluefish and others.


Outer Banks, NC Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing


The deep sea and offshore waters can be very good for a variety of fish. There are many fishing charters here as well who can take you offshore. Some of the popular fish to catch are mahi mahi, wahoo, tuna, marlin, sailfish, king mackerel, amberjack, bonito, false albacore, barracuda, sharks, snapper, grouper, black sea bass and more.

Outer Banks, NC Shore Fishing


The Outer Banks has miles of beaches to fish from the surf and several piers to give you access to a little deeper water. From the surf, anglers can catch a variety of fish depending on the time of year. Bluefish, drum, pompano, flounder, striped bass, spot and Spanish mackerel can all be found in the surf or just off the piers. Some other fish that anglers will catch off the piers are croaker, sheepshead, cobia, trout and sometimes even king mackerel.
