Primary Species of Fish

Smallmouth bass and largemouth bass are here in good numbers.  You can fish the chain and put a lot of fish in the boat.  It’s more of an action lake, so the average size fish will run a little on the small side, but if you put in the time, you will see some solid bass too.

There are some very good muskie fishing lakes in the Oneida County area.  Many of the larger lakes do have muskie available and some of these lakes in this area are known for producing some very big fish every year.  Walleye has been one of the primary species in this area and they are still highly valued here, but due to the walleye collapse on the chain, many anglers have turned to other species of fish.  There are other lakes in the area to fish for walleye though and a plan is in place to restore the chain back to an excellent walleye fishery.

Secondary Species of Fish

Northern pike are definitely a secondary species of fish on many of the lakes in the Oneida County area.  This area isn’t known for producing many trophy pike, but if you want to go out and catch some pike, there are plenty of lakes where you can expect to go out and catch some fish if you do target northern pike.

You will find panfish in the area lakes.  On many of the smaller lakes, bluegill will be the dominant panfish, but on the larger lakes, you may be able to catch perch and crappie too.  Some of the bigger lakes in this area will have more trophy potential, but there are so many small lakes to fish that don’t get much fishing pressure that you can probably find some lakes with some nice panfish that are hardly fished.
