Green Bay

Green Bay is home to some excellent fishing and Oconto County is right in the middle of the it.  This area is home to some excellent walleye fishing, but anglers will also catch smallmouth bass, northern pike, muskie, perch and more.

Spring & Fall – Fish the River Mouths

The spring and fall offer very good fishing in the river mouths of the Oconto River and the Pewaukee River.  In this part of Green Bay, walleye are king, but anglers will be able to target a variety of fish as the waters warm up in the spring.  Northern pike will come in first, then walleye followed by smallmouth bass.  Walleye get the most attention in this area.  Walleye move into the rivers in huge numbers, so the river mouths can be great spots for anglers looking to fish out in the bay.  There is a several week window for each species of fish since you can catch them out in the river mouths during pre-spawn and post-spawn.  Other fish can be caught in these areas as well, so don’t rule out panfish, muskie and more.

Fish the Rivers

Many anglers come to Oconto County to fish the rivers.  Whether you come to fish the open waters of Green Bay or the rivers, you have a lot of options.  The rivers offer good fishing in the spring and fall with some very big fish moving up to spawn or to chase bait fish.  Take a look at the Oconto River and the Pewaukee River to learn more about the river fishing in this area.

Out in the Bay

Anglers are close to some awesome fishing out in the bay in Oconto County.  The rivers helped attract fish in the spring and fall, so anglers target the mouths of these rivers mostly for walleye, but other fish too.  The lower part of Green Bay is known for its excellent walleye and muskie fishing.  During the summer, the fish aren’t as easy to find since they won’t re congregated near the rivers.  However, the open water fishing can be very good if have the boat to handle these waters.  Anglers usually cover lots of water by trolling for walleye out in the bay during the summer.  When you find schools of fish related to structure, then you can break out the jigs and other bottom rigs to fish vertical or drift for walleye, perch and some smallmouth bass too.
