Naples is a beautiful town with many homes lining the Gulf of Mexico beaches. With miles of white sand beaches, fine dining, shopping, beachside resorts and hotels, and plenty of outdoor activities.
Naples is known for its excellent backcountry fishing for tarpon, snook and redfish, however, there is also some very good surf fishing to go along with offshore fishing in the Gulf for grouper, snapper and many other types of fish. The Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park is popular among shore anglers and boaters use the pass to access the Gulf of Mexico.
Naples, FL Inshore Fishing
The inshore /backwater fishing is very good in the Naples, Florida area. Most anglers will be targeting snook, redfish and sea trout, however, there are so many more fish that you can catch here. The tides play a huge role in whether or not you will catch fish inshore. Moving water is key for most species of fish and the slack tide usually provides the worst fishing conditions for most fish. In Naples, you can expect to be fishing mangrove-lined shorelines, canals, bays and the creeks leading into them. Some of the other fish that you may catch inshore are sheepshead, ladyfish, tarpon, pompano and jack crevalle.

Naples, FL Nearshore Fishing
The nearshore fishing is very good in the Naples, Florida area. There are so many reefs, wrecks and ledges that offer a variety of different fish to catch. Grouper, snapper, kingfish, cobia, permit, snook and goliath grouper are some of the most common species of fish that you will catch. The time of year will dictate what fish will be more prevalent, but you can catch fish nearshore year-round in Naples, Florida.

Naples, FL Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing
Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing is very popular in Naples, Florida. The target species will vary depending on the seasons, but this area will provide plenty of action year-round. Many of the fishing charters will target the hard, rocky bottom or wrecks to bottom fish for grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, permit, amberjack and goliath grouper. Some other fish that are targeted offshore are barracuda, bonito, sharks and others. Offshore trolling is also done in this area, especially for king mackerel.

Naples, FL Surf & Pier Fishing
The Naples Pier gets a lot of attention from non-boaters that are still looking for a chance to catch a trophy fish. You may also want to check out Delnor-Wiggins State Park if you are looking to do some shore fishing. Fishing is available on the beaches of Naples and you can definitely catch some nice fish, but your best bet from shore may be from Naples Pier.
From the pier, snook are popular among many anglers, but you can catch mangrove snapper, sheepshead, flounder, pompano, cobia, tarpon, sharks, kingfish, spanish mackerel and others. For those of you that are renting a vacation home on the water, you may want to try fishing right off the dock in the canals. Fishing can be very good right from your dock, especially at night. Just remember, the best fishing is going to occur during the tidal changes. The Naples Pier has been closed since 2022 due to Hurricane Ian. Make sure to check the city website to see what is going on with the current pier updates.
