Munising is a city on the southern shore of Lake Superior on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. With miles of scenic shoreline and trails located within the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore area, this area is gorgeous and it offers plenty of outdoor recreation for its visitors.
Lake Superior is popular for targeting salmon and trout. You also have the option of going inland to fish the many area lakes for walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and panfish.
Salmon & Trout Fishing
This area has some very good salmon and trout fishing. Several fishing charters use Munising, MI as their port for fishing on Lake Superior. Depending on where you are fishing and the time of year, you may be able to catch king salmon, steelhead and lake trout. This area is known for its excellent lake trout fishing.
Walleye Fishing
There are several inland lakes nearby Munising that offer anglers good fishing for walleye. You won’t find too many trophy walleye lakes in this area, but there are definitely good enough numbers of fish in many of the lakes that should give you a good chance to put some fish in the livewell.
Northern Pike Fishing
Many of the inland lakes near Munising have good numbers of northern pike in them. Some of the lakes have some big fish available while others are known more for numbers. If you want to target pike in this area, you can definitely catch some fish.
Smallmouth Bass Fishing
There are several inland lakes near Munising that offer good fishing for smallmouth bass. You can definitely target smallmouth bass on a trip here if that’s something that you’re interested in.
Largemouth Bass Fishing
Some of the inland lakes near Munising offer some excellent fishing opportunities for largemouth bass. To most anglers up here, largemouth bass are a secondary species of fish. If you are looking to target largemouth bass, there are several good bass lakes and these fish are usually under fished.
Panfish Fishing
Many of the area lakes will have good populations of panfish. Whether you are looking to catch perch, crappie or bluegill, you should be able to catch plenty of panfish up here.
