Welcome to our Matagorda Bay Fishing Home Page
The Matagorda Bay area is a popular beach vacation destination on the Texas coast. People come here to enjoy the miles of beaches and awesome recreational opportunities.
Matagorda Bay and East Matagorda Bay give anglers a lot of options for fishing. The inshore fishing is good here for redfish, trout and flounder. Other fish can be caught inshore too. From the shores, you have miles of beaches and pier fishing is available too. You also have access to the Gulf of Mexico if you want to go offshore for grouper, snapper and many other species of fish.
Inshore Fishing
Matagorda Bay provides some excellent inshore fishing opportunities. The bay is huge and there are so many different places to fish. Anglers target a variety of fish such as trout, flounder, redfish, sheepshead, jack crevalle, black drum and more. Redfish and trout are the preferred species of fish for most anglers.
Nearshore Fishing
Nearshore, anglers can target a variety of fish along the beaches. The inshore and offshore fishing will usually trump here for most anglers, however, when there are some tarpon and cobia in the area, there are some anglers that will run the beaches in search of them. Some other fish that you can target nearshore are grouper, snapper, kingfish, Spanich mackerel and more.
Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing
Matagorda Bay gives you direct access to the Gulf. Depending on where you are launching your boat, it may be a short ride or a long ride out to the Gulf since the bay is pretty big. There are plenty of charters here that go offshore for a variety of fish depending on the season. Some of the fish you may catch are grouper, snapper, cobia, amberjack, king mackerel, barracuda, sharks, tuna, sailfish, marlin and others.
Surf & Pier Fishing
Surf and Pier fishing is available here. You have a lot of surf to fish along the beaches and piers are available here too. Most anglers are looking for redfish and trout, but depending on the season, you may be able to catch whiting, pompano, spanish mackerel, black drum, flounder, sheepshead, sharks and more.
