Iron River, Michigan is located just northeast of Eagle River, Wisconsin. The Iron River area doesn’t attract nearly as many people as in Eagle River, Wisconsin, but there are plenty of places to stay in Iron River and there are plenty of lakes that offer good fishing for walleye, northern pike, muskie, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and a variety of panfish.
Walleye Fishing
There are plenty of lakes in the Iron River area that offer good walleye fishing. Some lakes are definitely better than others, but you can find several lakes that give you a good chance to catch some walleye if you know how to fish for them.
Muskie Fishing
The Iron River area does have some muskie lakes available if you want to target them. If you are planning a trip up here though and you really want to catch a muskie, you may want to consider the popular area of Eagle River, WI and Three Lakes, WI. There are some pretty good muskie lakes a short drive into Wisconsin from Iron River, MI.
Northern Pike Fishing
The Iron River area has many lakes with northern pike in them and on some of these lakes, there is some potential for a bigger fish, although, most of the pike you will catch will probably be in the 20 to 25 inch range.
Smallmouth Bass Fishing
There are several lakes in the Iron River area that are home to smallmouth bass and smallies are usually a secondary species of fish for most anglers fishing up here. If you want to target smallmouth bass, you can definitely catch them and there are some quality bass in many of the lakes in the area.
Largemouth Bass Fishing
Largemouth bass fishing is good on many of the lakes in the Iron River, MI area. On some of the smaller lakes, largemouth bass and northern pike are the primary species of fish. On some of the bigger lakes, walleye and pike tend to be more popular among most anglers, so the largemouth bass fishing can actually be quite good since they are under fished.
Panfish: Perch, Crappie & Bluegill
The area lakes have good numbers of panfish available, although, you may have to sort through several smaller fish to find some big enough to put in the cooler for a fish fry.
