The mainland city of Brunswick and its four beautiful barrier islands: St. Simons Island, Sea Island, Little St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island make up the Golden Isles. The Golden Isles is located on the Georgia coast midway between Savannah, GA, and Jacksonville, FL. This area is a popular resort community that offers plenty of outdoor recreation. Boating is popular and there are fishing charters available that target a variety of inshore and offshore species.
This area is home to some very good inshore fishing and you can go offshore as well. Some of the fish that are common are flounder, sheepshead, whiting, redfish, sea trout, tarpon, sharks, kingfish, amberjack, cobia, snapper, wahoo and dolphin.

Golden Isles, GA Inshore Fishing
The Golden Isles are home to some awesome inshore fishing. This area has tons of backwater to fish with the rivers and creeks. Fishing during the tidal changes and understanding how they affect the fishing in this area is so important to consistently catching fish here inshore. Some of the popular fish to catch inshore are redfish, sea trout and tarpon. However, there are so many more fish that you can catch here. Some of the other fish that anglers may catch inshore here are sheepshead, ladyfish, pompano, sharks, bluefish, black drum and jack crevalle.

Golden Isles, GA Nearshore Fishing
The nearshore waters around the Golden Isles are home to a variety of fish such as kingfish, cobia, sharks, Spanish Mackerel, tarpon and several others. The time of year will dictate what fish will be more prevalent in the nearshore waters.
Golden Isles, GA Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing
The Golden Isles are known more having some outstanding deep sea fishing and there are several fishing charters here that are available to take you out on a trip. The target species will vary depending on the seasons, but some of the fish that are targeted here offshore are grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, amberjack, barracuda, sharks, mahi mahi, tuna, billfish, wahoo and others.

Pier Fishing
There are a couple piers available in this area for those of you that don’t have access to a boat. St. Simons Island Pier and Jekyll Island Pier give anglers some good places to get out and fish. From the piers, you can catch sheepshead, flounder, pompano, tarpon, sharks, Spanish mackerel, whiting, flounder, redfish, trout, whiting, bluefish and others.
Surf Fishing
Golden Isles beaches feature the ever-popular East Beach on St. Simons Island, the prehistoric Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island. Jekyll Island and St. Simons Islands’ beaches are public and you should be able to find a spot out here to fish. There are also some private beaches on Little St. Simons Island and Sea Island that are for private guests only.
From the surf, anglers usually target pompano, redfish, Spanish mackerel, black drum, sheepshead, sharks and other species of fish are also possible. There are plenty of places to fish along the beaches here. Fish during the tidal changes and you should be able to catch some fish from the beach in this area.
