If you want to fish for salmon, you can go just south of Lake Nipigon on Lake Superior. Bring your own boat or hire a charter. Thunder Bay isn’t too far away either.
Black Bay
Black Bay is a warm water fishery that offers good fishing for walleye, northern pike, perch and smallmouth bass. The water in this bay is relatively shallow with islands, reefs and plenty of weed beds. Anglers do well in the bay from spring through fall and the ice fishing can be very good here for perch. At the south end of the bay, anglers target cold water species of fish such as Chinook salmon and lake trout.
Nipigon Bay
Nipigon Bay offers good fishing for a variety of fish. Anglers target brook trout, rainbow trout, lake trout, coho salmon, pink salmon, northern pike, perch, whitefish and more.
Lake Superior
Lake Superior is just south of Lake Nipigon, so you can easily do some fishing here as well. It is known for its excellent salmon and trout fishery and there are plenty of charters here to get you out on the water. The rivers and streams that feed Lake Superior in this area are also known for having some excellent spawning runs. You can catch salmon and trout in this rivers when the timing is right. The steelhead fishing is popular on them in the spring and fall.
