Welcome to our Cedar Key, FL Fishing Home Page
Cedar Key is located on Way Key, which is the largest island in the Cedar Keys. This area has over 100 islands which make up the Cedar Keys. Cedar Key is a great place to get away from your busy work schedules. This small town island community is all about relaxing and enjoying the outdoors.
If you like inshore fishing, Cedar Key is an excellent destination for you. There is so much shallow water here to fish, so it is very popular to fish the grass flats, the potholes in and near the grass flats and all of the backcountry waters for redfish, sea trout and other fish too. Further out from shore, anglers do fish the nearshore and offshore waters for a variety of fish such as jacks, mackerel, snapper, grouper and more.

Inshore Fishing
This area is home to so much shallow water, it’s like basically having a monster flat with a maze of islands and bays that will keep you busy for as long as you have the time to fish. Moving water is key for most species of fish and the slack tide usually provides the worst fishing conditions for most fish. Redfish and sea trout are the primary species targeted here, but there are other fish you can catch such as snook, flounder, jacks and more.

Nearshore Fishing
The Crystal River area is unique in that there are lots of nearshore rocky structures that hold a lot of fish. Anglers can actually find some of these structures in clear water and sight fish for grouper. You can find structure and fish in just 8 to 10 feet of water here. There is plenty of structure as you go deeper as well. Some of the other fish you may find around the nearshore structure are mangrove snapper, sheepshead, jacks and more.

Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing
Cedar Key is definitely more of a shallow water destination and that is because deep water is a long boat ride away. While the continental shelf may be reached from a 20 to 25 mile boat ride from many of the boat ramps in the Destin area, you are looking at 150 miles or so from Cedar Key, Florida. Because of that, many charters do not offer offshore trips that are similar to what you can find in the Florida Panhandle.
In this area, most charters will be fishing 20 to 50 miles out in 50 to 100 feet of water. The offshore fishing is really good here, but it is just different. You are not going to find the pelagic species such as billfish, wahoo and tuna here like in other parts of the Gulf. Anglers do well with snapper, grouper and other fish around the bottom structures.
