Area Waters

Big Hole River

The Big Hole River has some special regulations on it.  Fishing guides are limited to how many days they can fish here in the summer months, which creates less fishing pressure here than there would be.  The river provides plenty of scenery with good fishing for rainbow trout, brown trout, brook trout and even grayling.

Madison River

The Madison River is a phenomenal river for fishing and a very diverse fishery.  There are many different sections of this river as it winds from the Yellowstone Park through several different lakes, through the valley and eventually will join the Gallatin and Jefferson Rivers.  The area you’re fishing will dictate the type of fishing you will experience, however, the river is known for having a very good fishery for brown trout and rainbow trout.  Whitefish are available too in some stretches.

Jefferson River

The Jefferson River is not as popular of a river due to the fact that it is a little bit of a drive from most of the major towns that have the majority of the guiding operations in Montana.  Combine that with the fact that there aren’t as many trout per mile as some of the better destinations and many of the guides don’t see this as a place to bring their clients when they can drive less and catch more fish.  However, this river is home to some big trout and with less crowds, it is very appealing to many anglers that want to catch big trout while getting away from the people.  It is primarily a brown trout fishery, but some rainbow trout are here too.

Upper Clark Fork River

This is another river that guides fish in the area.  This river fishes kind of like 2 different rivers.  The upper stretch of this river is known for its excellent brown trout fishery.  Rainbow and cutthroats can be caught here too.  The lower Clark Fork River is known for its good rainbow trout and cutthrout trout fisheries.  You will most likely run into some cutbows and an occasional brown trout too.
