The Blue Ridge Mountains are part of the larger Appalachian Mountain Range and they run from northern Georgia to southwest Pennsylvania.  The majority of the mountain range is found in northern Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.  There are so many places to visit in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Anglers experience good fishing for a variety of fish species that are found in large lakes, small lakes, rivers and streams.  From trout to bass, there is a lot to fish for in the Blue Ridge Mountains.



Asheville, North Carolina


Asheville, North Carolina is a very popular summer vacation destination.  The city is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains at the confluence of the Swannanoa River and the French Broad River.  There are an abundance of things to do from river rafting adventures, hiking on mountain trails, taking in the beautiful scenery and experiencing some excellent fishing.

Asheville is an awesome fishing destination.  There is plenty of water to fish and there are numerous fishing guides that can help you find the local hot spots.  Asheville, North Carolina is a very popular fly fishing destination.  Anglers come here from all over the country to fly fish for rainbow trout, brown trout and brook trout.  Some anglers also fly fish for smallmouth bass in the streams and rivers around Asheville.


Boone is a small town in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains and it is a great place for a river fishing vacation.  There are so many miles of excellent rivers and streams in the mountains in this area that provide excellent fishing for smallmouth bass and trout.  Muskie are also available if you’re willing to put in the time to target them.



Hot Springs, North Carolina


Hot Springs has been a resort destination for a long time with its scenic mountain setting, hot mineral springs and tons of outdoor recreation.  Located just 40 miles from Asheville at the junction of the Appalachian Trail and the French Broad River, it is surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Pisgah National Forest. This is the only North Carolina town where the Appalachian Trail runs directly down the main street.



Roanoke, Virginia


Roanoke is a decent-sized city in the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwest Virginia.  The city offers lots of entertainment with beautiful scenery.  For anglers, Smith Mountain Lake is the main draw here as fishing is popular for huge striped bass, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and many other species of fish.  River fishing is also popular here with some of the best smallmouth bass rivers flowing through this area.



Smith Mountain Lake is a beautiful lake that is surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains.  This is a very popular lake in Virginia for outdoor recreation such as fishing, boating, camping, swimming and more.  The lake covers more than 20,000 acres and it is a very good fishing lake.  There is a lot of fishing pressure on the lake, so it may not always be easy to catch lots of fish on artificial lures, but there are lots of quality fish in the lake.  This lake gets a lot of attention for its striped bass fishery.  There are good numbers of stripers and very big fish too.  Largemouth bass and smallmouth bass are popular throughout the lake and there are plenty of fishing tournaments held on the lake every year.  Crappie, catfish, white perch, bluegill and other sunfish round out the fishery here.
