Barren River Lake is a good-sized lake that is located about 40 minutes outside of Bowling Green, Kentucky. It covers more than 10,000 acres and is popular for fishing and boating. Anglers target largemouth bass, spotted bass, striped bass, crappie, white bass, catfish and bluegill.

Largemouth Bass, Hybrid Striped Bass, Crappie & Catfish
Barren River lake has good numbers of largemouth bass, hybrid striped bass, crappie and catfish. You won’t find tons of trophy sized fish for each of these species, however there are some nice largemouth bass and catfish in the lake. You will have to sort through a lot of smaller crappie to find the bigger ones. There are some big hybrid striped bass in the lake, but for the most part you’re going to find a lot of action sized fish.

Smallmouth Bass, Spotted Bass, White Bass, Yellow Bass & Bluegill
While there are a lot of bluegill in the lake, you’ll have to sort through a lot of smaller fish if you’re looking to keep some fish for the table. Smallmouth bass are here in smaller numbers. If you fish for bass on the lake, you’re definitely going to run into some spotted bass, white bass and yellow Bass, but they are usually not the target species for many anglers that visit here.
