Fishing Alexandria, MN in the Spring

Month Avg. Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
March 36° / 19°
April 53° / 33°
May 67° / 46°

The spring brings some awesome fishing here as all of the fish move into the shallows to feed and spawn.  The largemouth bass fishing is so good here that some anglers report catching 50 or more bass in a day here when the bass are all in the shallows.  If you wanted to fish hard and hit up multiple lakes, you can easily take advantage of the early season bite with all the largemouth bass in the shallows.  Catching walleye is much easier for most anglers in the spring as they will relate to the shallower vegetation earlier in the year.  Panfish can be caught shallow as well and many anglers do target perch, crappie and bluegill here as well.

Fishing Alexandria, MN in the Summer

Month Avg. Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
June 76° / 56°
July 81° / 61°
August 79° / 59°

The summer brings bigger crowds as this area is a fairly popular vacation destination for many people.  While the chain of the lakes will get a lot of pressure from anglers and boaters, you can still find good fishing in the morning and evenings throughout the summer.  The deeper weed edges will usually hold the better fishing for most species of fish in the summer.  There are plenty of lakes in this area that aren’t used by the pleasure boaters, so if you want to get away from the crowds, you easily can do that here.

Fishing Alexandria, MN in the Fall

Month Avg. Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
September 70° / 50°
October 55° / 37°
November 37° / 23°

The crowds disappear in the fall and the fishing can be very good here.  On most of the lakes, you will be able to find a deep water bite with some fish moving shallower as well through the early part of the fall.  The weed edges still hold a lot of fish such as largemouth bass, walleye, northern pike and panfish.  On the muskie lakes, the deeper weed edge with green weeds will usually be productive.

Fishing Alexandria, MN in the Winter (Ice Fishing)

Month Avg. Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
December 23° / 8°
January 18° / 1°
February 24° / 6°

Ice fishing is popular here.  There are plenty of resorts that stay open as well as bait shops to help keep you on the better bite.  There are also plenty of anglers fishing throughout the winter season, so you have plenty of options here with plenty of holes drilled on many of the popular lakes.  The bite in the winter is definitely more of a northern pike, walleye and panfish bite as largemouth bass don’t cooperate very well through the ice.
