The weightless rig, also known as a free lining rig, works very well for striped bass when they can be found in shallower water. Live shad and shiners are the most common bait and at times, you will see your bait get chased to the surface before it gets slammed by a big striped bass. This type of strike doesn’t happen when you’re fishing with a bottom rig in deeper water, so it’s a pretty exciting way to fish when you can catch them in shallower water on a free lining rig.
