Spinning rods & reels are fine for most situations. Since spotted bass are smaller bass on average, you will usually be using spinning gear with smaller lures and lighter line.
Baitcasters are fine too, especially if you are fishing a body of water with bigger spotted bass. If you are fishing clear water, you might be better off staying with the finesse gear, but in murkier water, the baitcasters and heavier line work just fine.
