Located Less than 90 Minutes From the Orlando Airport
If you are coming down to visit the Orlando / Disney area, I highly recommend coming down to fish Headwaters Lake for a day of your vacation. I was planning on being in Orlando to guide on Lake Toho for the winter/spring of 2024/2025, however, after my first day of fishing with live shiners on Headwaters Lake, I knew I had to stay and start guiding on this lake instead.
The fishing can be flat out incredible. It is worth the drive down from Orlando and I will be here from the end of December through early June to take you out on a guided bass fishing trip.
I may be the new guide on the block for Headwaters Lake, but I know this lake very well and usually get 40 to 50 quality bites per day when with fishing live shiners. If I brought out more than 4 to 5 dozen shiners, I would probably get even more bites. The bass fishing can be amazing with live shiners on this lake.

Live Shiner Trips
The trips in January and February will be live shiner trips. It is the most consistent way to catch good numbers of quality bass during the winter months. If the artificial bite picks up, I will post it on my Headwaters Lake Fishing Reports website, so you will have an idea of what is going on. Once the artificial bite picks up, I can always accommodate anglers who may want to do a live shiner & artificial lure trip where we fish with live shiners for a couple hours then do the artificial lure thing for a couple hours too.
March thru June
You can book a trip with artificial lures, live shiners or a hybrid of both. It is very difficult to fish a lure while leaving a live bait rod out there due to the fact that it can go from 0 to 100 in a hurry when a bigger bass grabs a shiner. If you are not paying attention, you could very easily lose a rod in no time.
However, we can easily fish with lures, then with shiners and even go back and forth between the two throughout your trip if preferred.

(2 adults or 2 adults with 1 Child or 1 Adult with 2 Children maximum)
Live Bait is Not Included in the Trip Price
For live shiner trips, you will need 4 to 5 dozen per trip. You do have to purchase these shiners separately. There is no discount on the shiners. There is no markup on bait prices. You pay what the bait shop charges. Currently, they are selling for $25 or $26 per dozen depending on the bait shop. Prices can change.

What to Expect
Check Out The Boat
Kevin is fishing out of a brand new 2024 MAKO 18 LTS w/ 115 ELPT Mercury Four Stroke. There is a hydraulic jack plate on the boat, which is very important for lifting the motor higher up so we can navigate more of this lake easier.
Taking The Road To The Boat Ramp
Once you get to the road that takes you to the boat ramp, you will be driving in on a gravel / dirt road. They do grade this road constantly, so on some days, it doesn’t seem too bad at all, yet on others, it may be a little more bumpy and/or dusty.
Leaving The Dock
From the boat ramp to our 1st fishing spot, we will be taking anywhere from a 10 to 20 minute boat ride to start the trip. There are closer spots to fish, however, I like going further away and just working our way back to the boat ramp area throughout our trip. If there is a really good bite closer to the boat ramp, we will start closer, but plan on a 10 to 20 minute boat ride to start.
If it is cool in the morning, you may want to have a jacket, hat and any warm apparel you think you would need. If it is a colder morning, the boat ride will be a little chilly. With the 25 mph speed limit on this lake, we won’t be going fast enough for that first boat ride to be miserable, but it could be a little chilly on the colder mornings.

Mid-June Through July 2025
Branson, MO – Lake Taneycomo
In mid-June, I will leave Headwaters Lake to spend the summer in Branson, Missouri where I will be offering trout fishing trips 5 days a week on Lake Taneycomo. I will have the summer schedule up soon.
October – November 2025
Headwaters Lake
I will have a fall schedule for Headwaters Lake again, but I will only be running guide trips 4 days a week in the fall. This schedule will not go online for a few more months.
December 2025 – May 2026
Headwaters Lake
Some people like to reserve dates for their next year’s vacation after finishing their most recent trip. You can put a deposit down to reserve your dates for the following year, but you have to do a fishing trip with be before holding a date for next year. If this is something you’re interested in, you can put a deposit down to hold your date as well as 2024 / 2025 pricing. If rates go up, you would be grand-fathered in for your 2024/2025 trip rate.
