Panfish

Bream or Sunfish (Bluegill, Redear, Pumpkinseed, etc.)

Many of the Minneapolis metro lakes are known for largemouth bass, bluegill and northern pike.  You can catch good numbers of bluegill throughout the area on many different lakes.  Plan on sorting through a lot of smaller fish to find some bigger bluegill, however, there are some lakes with some quality bluegill available.

Crappie

Crappie are found in many of the lakes in the metro area and they are usually targeted by anglers during the winter through the ice and in the spring when they are found very shallow.  Many of the lakes have good populations of crappie, so if you know how to fish deeper water, you should be able to catch them from summer through fall too.

White Bass

White bass can be found in some lakes here, but it is the rivers where you are going to find them in bigger numbers.  The spring and fall are the best times to target white bass.  At times, the fishing can be very good for white bass.

Yellow Perch

Perch are here as well, but they are here in low numbers on many of the lakes.  Don’t plan on catching them in large numbers like you can with the white bass, bluegill and crappie.
