Fishing Lake Nipigon in the Spring

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
March
28° / 8°
April
39° / 22°
May
52° / 35°

It is cold up here in the spring, which is great for targeting brook trout, lake trout, northern pike and walleye in shallower water.  The downside is that it will be quite cool here if you plan on coming up here in the spring.  Make sure to dress appropriately because you can very easily be fishing in snow flurries through the month of May.

Fishing Lake Nipigon in the Summer

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
June
64° / 47°
July
71° / 56°
August
71° / 57°

In the summer, it is still cool here, but as summer patterns set in, the fish will move deeper.  You can still find plenty of fish in the shallows in the area lakes, but if you’re targeting trout, you’re going to do better in deeper water.  The walleye will move to offshore structure as well.  It is quite comfortable here in the summer with temperatures feeling a lot more like spring than summer.

Fishing Lake Nipigon in the Fall

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
September
63° / 50°
October
48° / 39°
November
36° / 27°

In the fall, it gets cold here quick, so if you’re planning on coming here for a fishing trip, plan accordingly.  Trout, walleye and pike will move into the shallows again, so you don’t have to fish deep to catch a variety of fish.

Fishing Lake Nipigon in the Winter (Ice Fishing)

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
December
24° / 13°
January
14° / -1°
February
14° / -5°

Ice fishing is popular on many of the smaller area lakes.  Anglers usually target lake trout, perch, walleye and northern pike through the ice.
