Rainbow Trout

Rainbow trout fishing is fast and exciting with stocked fish averaging 12 inches.  Some bigger rainbow trout do exist with quite a few fish in the 2 to 5 pound range and some are even bigger.

Catch Lots of Rainbow Trout

Anglers that target rainbow trout can have 30 – 80 fish days because these fish are so abundant.  The rainbow trout bite well here year-round and they are stocked here in such large numbers, that it is a very reliable fishery no matter what month you decide to visit.

Brown Trout

Brown trout are much harder to catch and here in lower numbers, but there is a fishable population of them with some good-sized fish as well.  Each day can be so different as far as numbers go when fishing for brown trout, but it’s one of the better brown trout fisheries in the Midwest, so you should be able to catch some of them while on a trip here.

Catch a Big Trout

If you are looking for a big trout, anglers will be targeting brown trout while here on the White River.  The brown trout are not all huge, however, most of the big trout that are caught on this river will be brown trout.  Action comes easy with the rainbow trout, but catching a bigger brown trout is definitely more of a challenge.  However, anglers do report landing brown trout in the double digits with some as big as 20 pounds every year.

Cutthroat Trout

Cutthroat trout can also be caught on the White River and a state record was caught weighing 9 pounds 9 ounces.  They are not the primary species on this river, but there are some cutthroat trout here to catch and many anglers do catch them while fishing for rainbow and brown trout.

Brook Trout

Brook trout are available in small numbers and most anglers don’t catch them while targeting other species of trout.  There are some in here though.
