Fishing Panama City Beach in the Spring

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
March 72° / 54°
April 77° / 59°
May 84° / 68°

The spring brings warmer waters and some excellent fishing opportunities for anglers.  The resident fish such as redfish, sea trout and flounder will offer good fishing inshore.  Sheepshead can still be found in good numbers in the early part of the spring while water temperatures are still kind of cool.  As waters warm here through mid to late spring, anglers have so many options.  Black drum and jacks are found inshore.  Bluefish, pompano and whiting are running the beaches.  Cobia migrate through here in good numbers with tarpon showing up in better numbers later in the spring.

Fishing Panama City Beach in the Summer

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
June 89° / 74°
July 90° / 76°
August 90° / 75°

Summer is such an awesome time to fish the Panama City Beach area.  While there will be plenty of crowds during the summer, there are so many places to catch fish.  Inshore, you can target redfish, sea trout, flounder, jacks and black drum.  Some sheepshead are still in the area, however, the adult fish  will go offshore to spawn in the summer.  Tarpon move into the bays and along the beaches as they migrate through this area in the summer.  Offshore, anglers target sharks, amberjack, snapper, grouper and pelagic fish as well in farther offshore waters.  Red snapper fishing is great in the summer, however there will be a season that limits how many days you can fish for them and this varies from year to year.

Fishing Panama City Beach in the Fall

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
September 88° / 72°
October 81° / 63°
November 73° / 54°

In September and October, there are still good numbers of migratory fish, however when the water cools off into November, these fish will be more limited.  The fishing can be very good for redfish, sea trout, flounder, black drum and the sheepshead fishing improves towards the end of the fall.  Offshore, the charter boats will be targeting grouper, snapper, wahoo, marlin, sailfish, amberjacks, sharks, yellowfin tuna and more.

Fishing Panama City Beach in the Winter

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
December 65° / 47°
January 63° / 45°
February 66° / 48°

In the winter, cold fronts can make fishing a lot tougher, however, the inshore fishery is very good in the Panama City Beach area.  Because the bays are home to some deep water and lots of good shallow water to fish, there will be good numbers of fish using the bay as their winter home.  The key in the winter is to figure out whether the better bite will be in the deeper holes around structure or up in the shallows.  Warm fronts that come through will usually provide some good fishing as lots of fish will move into the shallows to feed.  During cold fronts though, there may be a lot of quality fish hunkered down in deeper holes and the bite can be tough.  Redfish, sea trout, flounder and sheepshead are the usual suspects inshore.  Offshore, it is a lot quieter here in the winter, however, there are still plenty of fish on the reefs and wrecks.
