The spring is a great time to fish the Homosassa area. Redfish and sea trout are popular year round here and the spring is a really good time to target both species of fish. Sheepshead are still here in the spring, however, some of these fish will start moving out as the waters warm near the end of spring. As waters warm, anglers start seeing a lot more tarpon, bluefish, cobia, jacks, snook, cobia and more. Whether you fish all the amazing backcountry waters or head out towards the bay, you have a lot of options with so much amazing water to fish.

In the summer months, the warmer water temperatures bring the migratory species into this area in larger numbers. The tarpon and snook bring some exciting fishing opportunities to anglers fishing here in the summer. Redfish and trout will still be going strong in the summer months. Scalloping is very popular here in the summer. Offshore, anglers are targeting grouper, snapper, sharks and more.

Fall brings some cooler temperatures and excellent fishing opportunities. As water temperatures cool, migratory fish move through the area as they eventually head back down south to warmer waters. The big redfish move in during the fall. Sea trout are available in good numbers. Some snook and tarpon will still be here through the fall, however, as waters cool towards the end of fall, you will see less snook and tarpon. However, as some of the migratory species of fish move out, the sheepshead start moving back in. Offshore, anglers are still targeting grouper, snapper, sharks and more on the offshore structure.

The cooler winter months are great for anglers who like to fish the inshore waters. You won’t have to venture too far in the winter to find fish as lots of fish will pack tighter further up into the rivers. The warm water springs help keep water temperatures stable all winter, which helps shield this area from some of those cold, wintry days that can slow the bite. The fishing won’t always be hot here, but in the rivers, you can usually find something willing to bite through the winter. Redfish, sea trout, sheepshead, flounder, mangrove snapper, snook and jacks are usually willing to bite some live or dead bait fished around the bottom. You can still catch plenty of fish out in the nearshore and offshore waters as well, but the inshore river fishing really comes on strong and takes priority for many anglers during the colder, winter months.
