Surf & Pier Fishing

Sarasota has plenty of places to fish from the beaches and there is a fishing pier called the Tony Saprito Pier that offers some good fishing for a variety of different fish.  From the surf, anglers have miles of beaches to fish.  The usual targets are whiting, pompano, snook and redfish, but depending on the season, you may also be able to catch spanish mackerel, black drum, flounder, sheepshead, sharks and other species of fish.

Inshore Fishing

Sarasota is home to Sarasota Bay, which has some excellent inshore fishing for a variety of different fish.  Some of the popular fish to catch inshore are snookredfishsea trout and tarpon.  You may also catch sheepshead, ladyfish, pompano and jack crevalle to go along with other species of fish too.  Make sure to fish the tidal changes as they usually provide the best fishing conditions for most species of fish inshore.

Nearshore Fishing

The nearshore fishing can be very good in the Sarasota area just off the beaches.  The popular fish that most anglers target nearshore are grouper, snapper, kingfish, cobia, Spanish mackerel and goliath grouper.  The time of year will dictate what fish will be more prevalent, but you can catch fish nearshore year-round in this area.

Deep Sea & Offshore Fishing

There is some very good fishing in the offshore waters around Sarasota and there are several deep sea fishing charters that can take you out for a fishing trip.  The types of fish will vary depending on the seasons, but you can definitely catch fish offshore here year-round.  Some of the offshore fish to target are grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, permit, amberjack, Spanish mackerel, barracuda, tuna, wahoogoliath grouper and many others.
