Blade baits are made to imitate bait fish.  They are typically made to be fished in a vertical jigging motion, although, there are many blade baits on the market that are made for winding in with a steady retrieve.  Anglers catch a variety of fish on these baits.  Some of the most common fish that are targeted with blade baits are bass, walleye, northern pike and crappie.

Rod, Reel & Line

Blade Baits are great search baits.  Cast them or troll them and you can cover a bunch of water and target a variety of different fish.  Vertical jigging is also popular for fish such as smallmouth bass, walleye, crappie and more.  Depending on size of the blade bait and the fish you’re targeting you may end up using medium gear or heavy tackle with heavier line.
