Tailwater Fisheries

Ouachita River Tailwaters

The tailwaters are stocked seasonally below the Blakely, Carpenter and Remmel dams on the Ouachita River.  Rainbow trout are stocked from November through April, which gives anglers the opportunity to fish for trout in this southern climate from late fall through spring every year.

Blakely Mountain Dam

Blakely Mountain Dam is a large dam that was finished being constructed in 1953.  The dam creates Lake Ouachita.  Below the dam, you will find Stephens Park.  This quiet park has a campground and gives people access to the spillway.  Anglers fish the tailwaters for a variety of fish year-round, but it is especially popular from fall through spring once the rainbow trout are stocked.

Carpenter Dam

Carpenter Dam separates Lake Hamilton from the Ouachita RIver.  Carpenter Dam Park is located just below the dam and this park gives anglers access to the tailwater fishery with a boat launch and dock.  Anglers fish this area year-round, but it is especially popular from late fall through spring when the rainbow trout are being stocked.

Remmel Dam

From Remmel Dam, the river flows freely again.  This area is popular for floating and fishing.  From late fall through spring, many anglers come here to target the stocked rainbow trout.

Lake Greeson Tailwater

The tailwater between Narrows Dam on the Little Missouri River to low-water bridge at Muddy Fork Road is stocked to provide anglers in southwest Arkansas the opportunity to fish for trout.

Narrows Dam

The Narrows Dam is located on Lake Greeson and the Little Missouri River near Murfreesboro, Arkansas.  The tailwaters here are home to a variety of fish, but the trout are very popular among most anglers, especially from fall through spring.
