Fishing the Bay of Quinte in the Spring

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
March 40° / 24°
April 54° / 35°
May 67° / 46°

Early in the spring, anglers target walleye, northern pike, perch and crappie as water temperatures are still really cold.  As water temperatures warm up through April, the bite is usually pretty good for these species of fish.  Once waters warm up more towards the end of May, the fishing gets a lot better for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass.  The spring is the best time to catch a variety of fish a lot shallower than you will find them in the summer.

Fishing Bay of Quinte in the Summer

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
June 75° / 56°
July 81° / 61°
August 79° / 60°

The summer is when most people will come here for a vacation and they will miss the huge walleye that migrate back out to Lake Ontario for the summer.  You may still run into some occasional big walleye, but the walleye up to and above 10 pounds move out in huge numbers during the summer.  Anglers still have a lot of good fishing here with the resident walleye that are here.  The bass fishing is very good for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass from the opener all the way through the summer.

Fishing Bay of Quinte in the Fall

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
September 71° / 52°
October 58° / 42°
November 46° / 32°

The fall brings some very good fishing and most of the boat traffic from non-anglers will be off the waters after Labor Day Weekend.  You can find plenty of fish moving back into shallower water as water temperatures drop back into the low 60s.  Anglers do well with pretty much everything in September and then in October, water temperatures cool off quickly and walleye will get the most attention.  By mid-October, there are plenty of huge walleye migrating into the bay and anglers will be fishing for those 10, 11 and 12 pound walleye that move back into these waters.

Fishing Bay of Quinte in the Winter (Ice Fishing)

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
December 34° / 21°
January 29° / 14°
February 31° / 15°

Ice fishing is good here in the winter.  Some people report very good fishing for walleye, perch and northern pike all winter long.
