Largemouth bass are available in fishable numbers, although, many anglers do not target them. Walleye, pike, muskie, perch and even smallmouth bass usually are higher up on most angler’s priority lists, so the largemouth bass have held their own in this lake as a secondary species of fish. There are some quality fish in this lake too with some 4 to 5 pound bass caught every year.
East End of the Lake
The east end of the lake is wide open for the most part. Anglers usually target walleye, pike and perch on this side of the lake. In the more protected areas, anglers do catch some largemouth bass. There are a few smaller bays and two larger bays. Fish the vegetation on this part of the lake and you’ll find some largemouth bass.
West End of the Lake
The west end of the lake provides a lot more water to fish for largemouth bass. Anglers have so many bays, islands and protected water, which allows them to still move around and fish a lot of productive water without dealing with rough water. Fish the weeds throughout this part of the lake and you’ll find some largemouth bass. Depending on what lures you are using, you may end up catching a lot of pike too, so make sure you have a heavy mono or fluorocarbon leader in the 40 pound range.
Fish the Points
There are a lot of points to fish here and you will find largemouth bass around these points. The rocky points are known more for attracting smallmouth bass, but you can often find some quality largemouth bass on these rocky points, especially if they are close to a bay with vegetation.
Fish the Rocks
This lake has a lot of rocks and you will definitely find more smallmouth bass and walleye on the rocks, but you will find some largemouth bass relating to the rocks too. Fish the rocks around the points and islands and you will run into some largemouth bass.
Fish the Weeds
Largemouth bass are smart and they know they have to stay away from the pike and muskie if they are going to survive here. Because of this, you can find a lot of largemouth bass in very shallow, vegetated areas here. You’re going to find pike here too, but when a lot of the better quality pike go deeper, that gives largemouth bass a lot more water to call home in these shallow, vegetated areas. Plan on catching plenty of smaller pike while fishing the shallow weeds, but you may run into some big pike too, especially early in the year and when water temperatures drop back into the low 60s in the fall.

Largemouth bass will eat so many different baits and there are so many different lures that are made for catching these fish. Anglers have more options than they really need, but since we have all these options, it’s nice to know about the different baits that are available.
Minnows, nightcrawlers and leeches are definitely the best live baits for largemouth bass. When it comes to artificial lures, you have so many options. Soft plastic worms, lizards, crayfish baits and minnows work great. Hard baits such as crankbaits, topwater lures, spinnerbaits, jigs and jerkbaits are also all awesome choices for largemouth bass.
