If you are coming to Lake Nipigon and you want to target smallmouth bass, you will need to fish some of the other area lakes. There are smallmouth bass around, but this is definitely more of a northern pike, walleye and lake trout destination.
Black Bay
Black Bay is a warm water fishery that offers good fishing for walleye, northern pike, perch and smallmouth bass. The water in this bay is relatively shallow with islands, reefs and plenty of weed beds. Anglers do well in the bay from spring through fall and the ice fishing can be very good here for perch. At the south end of the bay, anglers target cold water species of fish such as Chinook salmon and lake trout.
Black Sturgeon Lake
This lake is located just south of Lake Nipigon. Anglers can fish for walleye, pike, perch and smallmouth bass.
Cox Lake
Cox Lake has a gravel road access and a boat launch. The lake contains smallmouth bass, perch and pike.
