Chautauqua Lake provides some very good fishing for largemouth bass for those who choose to fish for them. There is so much habitat in the 2 to 10 foot range all around the lake that is perfect for largemouth bass.
Fish the Docks
This lake has plenty of docks to fish throughout the lake. Early in the year, you can find a lot of bass using these docks as these fish move into the shallows to spawn. Once the spawn is over and the summer pattern sets in, there will still be a good number of largemouth bass around the docks, but the better fish will usually be around the docks with deeper water near them. Docks with weeds will also hold more bass when water temperatures rise.
Fish the Weeds
This lake has a lot of vegetation in it and largemouth bass love it. In the spring fish the new green weeds along the shorelines, near docks, in the bays and around the points. Largemouth bass can be found very shallow early in the year, but the deeper weed lines will usually hold the better quality largemouth bass in the summer and fall.
Fish the Chadakoin River
The river holds some good largemouth bass fishing and this area is often overlooked by bass anglers on Chautauqua Lake. You can find decent numbers of them with some big bass here from spring through fall.
