Light action spinning rods and reels will get the job done for crappie fishing. Crappie do like wood and there are a lot of snags in and around the wood, however, most crappie anglers still use 4 to 6 pound line. You can go heavier as some anglers prefer going as heavy as 10 pound line when fishing around timber. Since most anglers are using light line, you are going to need lighter action rods to keep from snapping the line on hook sets. An ultra light spinning rod and reel gets the job done for crappie fishing.
