Many anglers wonder if nightcrawlers and other worms will work for catching crappie.  Typically, nightcrawlers are not a crappie bait, especially if you fish with a whole nightcrawler.  Some anglers do have some success with a piece of a nightcrawler added to the back of a small jig.  The jig is what typically attracts the crappie and the added scent from the broken worm may help draw some additional strikes.  In most situations, you will catch many more crappie by fishing with small minnows instead of worms.  Wax worms do work well when tipped on jigs, but wax worms are completely different from nightcrawlers.
