Fishing Upper Red Lake in the Summer

Month Avg. Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
June 75° / 50°
July 80° / 54°
August 78° / 52°

In the summer, the fish would like to go deep, but they don’t have that option on this lake.  You are going to find the bigger schools of fish in the main lake in deeper water, but it really isn’t that deep.  You will find a lot of fish in that 10 to 15 foot range here in the summer.

Fishing Upper Red Lake in the Fall

Month Avg. Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
September 68° / 43°
October 54° / 32°
November 35° / 17°

In the fall, the fish can spread out quite a bit.  Some fish will move back into the shallows while others will stay deeper.  They can’t go off into real deep water here because there isn’t any.  The schools of bait fish will usually dictate where a lot of fish are holding on the lake.  Cover water until you find the fish.  Once you find them, try to stay on them.

Many anglers will ice fish on Upper Red Lake.  The fishing can be very good as walleye, pike, perch and crappie will feed all the way through the winter.  You will have some company out here too.  Anglers like to fish this lake in the winter time because it produces some awesome catches through the ice every winter.
