Walleye and sauger are very mobile. They will swim up to 100 miles to reach their spawning destination. They will also move constantly throughout the day based on the current conditions. The light penetration, water temperature and
oxygen content will all play a role in where the fish will be located throughout the day. Walleye and sauger are arguably the best-tasting freshwater fish. Anglers love catching and eating these fish. They are easy to clean and great-tasting on the grill or in the frying pan.
Walleye fishing continues to grow each year. Fishermen will travel long distances for some excellent walleye fishing. Walleye tournaments are becoming very popular throughout the country also.
Walleye and sauger can be caught many different ways. These fish are mostly found in deeper water, however, you can find them in less than 20 feet of water in the spring, fall, and when they are feeding in the mornings, evenings and throughout the night. It is not uncommon to catch walleye in water as shallow as 4 or 5 feet, but most of the time, they are located in deeper water. They are common in lakes and rivers. The biggest congregations of walleye are in the northern states and up into Canada. You can also find them in the midwest and in some southern states as well.
