Sunshine bass are a hybrid produced by crossing a female white bass with a male striped bass. These fish resemble striped bass and
white bass, which makes identifying them difficult, especially for young fish. When they become adults, sunshine bass have a deep body and an arched back similar to the white bass. They can often be distinguished by broken or irregular stripes on the front half of body and straight lines on the rear half of body. Sunshine bass are common in Florida and some other southern states.
Fishing for Sunshine Bass Some of the same techniques that work for striped bass and white bass will work for sunshine bass. Sunshine bass can grow to the 6 or 7 pound range in a few years, so you can target these fish with the same lures that you use for white bass, but you can go a little bigger with your lure sizes. Like striped bass, sunshine bass feed heavily on shad.
