Houghton Lake is a very large lake located in Roscommon County. It is the largest
inland lake in Michigan. Houghton Lake is about 7.5 miles long and 4.5 miles at its
widest point. It covers 30 miles of shoreline and over 20,000 acres of surface area.
Houghton Lake is a very popular year-round vacation destination. This lake is the site
of Tip-Up-Town USA, which is a large ice fishing and winter sports festival with several
events on the frozen waters of the lake itself. Anglers catch a variety of species such
as northern pike, walleye, crappie, bluegill, perch and largemouth bass.
