Savannah and Tybee Island draw millions of visitors each year.  While most people may come here to enjoy the city’s architecture and historic buildings, there is plenty of outdoor recreation available here as well.

The Savannah & Tybee Island area provide some very good fishing opportunities.  Anglers can fish the area rivers, around Tybee Island and there are also offshore fishing charters available too.  Anglers fish for a variety of fish, however, redfish and trout and probably the most popular species of fish that anglers target.

Savannah & Tybee Island Inshore Fishing


The Savannah and Tybee Island area is home to some awesome inshore fishing. This area has tons of backwater to fish with the rivers and creeks. The tidal changes bring these backwater areas to life and understanding how they affect the fishing in this area is so important to consistently catching fish here inshore. Some of the popular fish to catch inshore are redfish, sea trout and tarpon.

Savannah & Tybee Island Nearshore Fishing


The nearshore waters around the Tybee Island are home to a variety of fish such as kingfish, cobia, sharks, Spanish Mackerel, tarpon and several others. The time of year will dictate what fish will be more prevalent in the nearshore waters.


Savannah & Tybee Island Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing


Tybee Island has some outstanding deep sea fishing and there are several fishing charters here that are available to take you out on a trip. The target species will vary depending on the seasons, but some of the fish that are targeted here offshore are grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, amberjack, barracuda, sharks, mahi mahi, tuna, billfish, wahoo and others.

Savannah & Tybee Island Shore Fishing


Pier Fishing

Tybee Pier & Pavilion give anglers access to the Atlantic Ocean where they can get access to a little deeper water and they can fish for sheepshead, flounder, pompano, tarpon, sharks, Spanish mackerel, whiting, flounder, redfish, trout, whiting, bluefish and others.


Surf Fishing

From the surf, anglers have plenty of beaches to be fishing off of Tybee Island.  Anglers usually target pompano, redfish, Spanish mackerel, black drum, sheepshead, sharks and other species of fish are also possible along the beaches.  Fish during the tidal changes and you should be able to catch some fish from the beach in this area.
