Walleye can be found in large numbers in the Morson area on Lake of the Woods. This area is so good because you have so many options. Open water on the main lake is a short boat ride and Sabaskong Bay offers excellent walleye fishing around the islands, points and offshore reefs.
Sabaskong Bay
Sabaskong Bay is a popular bay to fish in this part of the lake. The bay is huge and it has everything you could want when targeting walleye. Early in the year, you can find plenty of walleye cruising the rocky shorelines. As the water warms up and summer patterns set in, plan on finding a lot of walleye just off the islands, points and on the numerous reefs.
Catch Lots of Walleye
This area gives anglers the opportunity to put up some impressive numbers while fishing for walleye. Sabaskong Bay puts up good numbers all season long and the open waters here offers some very good fishing on the offshore structure in the summer and fall.
Catch Big Walleye
Because you have quick access to the main lake structures and the huge bay of Sabaskong Bay, you have so many great big fish spots from spring through fall. You will find big fish as they transition to shallow waters to spawn in the spring and to the deeper waters offshore in the summer and fall. Anglers do catch quality walleye here and big fish up to and above 30 inches are possible.
Fishing the Drop-offs
When the walleye move out to deeper water in the summer, anglers have so many places to fish for them here. Fish the drop-offs around islands, points and reefs and you’ll find walleye from summer through fall.
Fishing the Points
There are so many points to fish on this part of the lake. Walleye relate to the points from spring through fall. In the summer and fall, fish the wind blown points with deep water nearby and you’ll have more success.
Fishing the Islands
There are so many islands to fish here that it can be hard to decide where to start. In the summer and fall, the islands are a great pattern to fish. Start with the wind blown points that have some rocks and some access to deeper water. You may have to do a little searching on your trip, but you should be able to find some of the schools of walleye that are cruising the waters around the islands.
Fishing the Reefs
The reefs are great spots in the summer and fall and this area has plenty of reefs for anglers to fish. Find the reefs with deep water nearby and you’ll have a better chance to find larger schools of walleye.
Fishing the Rocks
This whole area has tons of rocks, so plan on fishing plenty of rocks when fishing here. Whether you target the shorelines, points, islands or reefs, you will be catching a good amount of walleye around the rocks.
Fishing the Weeds
The weeds will be a better pattern for northern pike, but there are plenty of walleye that relate to the weeds too. Fish the new green weeds early in the year and the deeper weed lines in the summer and fall and you’ll have more success.
